The City That Said No To Baseball- The Sports Economist

City of No Baseball

In the late 1990's when the brewers left their old stadium in Chandler, Arizona for Maryvale Park in Phoenix. The people were afraid that it would be a big economic lost for the city.  But there wasn't It didn't drop at all because the stadium was a newer stadium and more seats. The only factor that really came in play was the location change. So the fans that lived near the stadium had to travel to the new location. But that is a small factor.

In my opinion this location change was a very smart move. Without the change there team couldn't expand and make more money. When a team changes location the income will eventually start to boom because of the better facilities and more seats. Just like in Dallas when they built there new stadium more people wanted to go there and watch a game.

So if you are planning on owning a team up grade because the income will come in over time.

  1. Chandler, Arizona seems to be doing well. The city's bond rating has increased, which is the total opposite of Glendale, Arizona. The wealth is also going up as the population has been rising. I do not think Chandler, Arizona will be willing to have the Brewers come back!
